Message from Mrs Birch

Mrs Birch
Mrs Birch - Headteacher

It has been a pleasure to welcome the children back this week after their half term break. We hope you were all able to enjoy some family time last week.

We would like to thank all of the Year 6 parents who attended the meeting regarding the children SATs on Monday evening. We really do appreciate your support in the children going on to secondary school with the best possible results. At the other end of the age scale, we also had the opportunity to show off Galley Hill to prospective parents for next year’s reception cohort this week. If you know anyone looking for a school for their child, we will be running about tour for prospective parents on Thursday 28th November so please encourage them to book on with the office.

Value of the Month

Our value for the month of November is ‘empathy’. I spoke with the children in assembly on Monday about what empathy was and why it was important to see things from someone else’s point of view and try to understand them. As ever, we would really appreciate it if you could speak with your children at home about what it means to show empathy to others.

Staff Update

We are thrilled to welcome Mrs Brown to our staff team in the role of midday supervisor. I know all staff and pupils will make her feel extremely welcome.

Nursery Rhyme Week

A reminder that children in Early Years will be celebrating national Nursery Rhyme week next week in class and will be doing a short performance for parents next Friday. The details have already been shared by Early Years staff. We would encourage all of our families to spend some time reminding themselves of, and enjoying, their favourite Nursery Rhymes next week.

Sharing Assembly

A reminder that 5 Onyx will be presenting their sharing assembly on Thursday (14th November) at 9am. Any parents / carers wishing to attend should report to the school office.

Children In Need Day - Friday 15th November

Over the course of next week we will have Children in Need pens, wristbands and badges available from the office and brought round to the classrooms, these are priced at £1 each. On Friday, for Children in Need day we ask if children would like to come to school in something spotty, brown or yellow along side their normal uniform and for this we would ask for a £1 donation to the Children In Need charity. Friday will coincide with Nursery and Reception's Nursery Rhyme dress up day so those children are asked to come in wearing their nursery rhyme costume instead.

PINS Parent / Carer Meeting

We asked for Galley Hill to be part of the Partnerships for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) programme. This is a programme initiated by The DfE and NHS England. The aims are to meet the needs of children with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) in mainstream schools to improve outcomes (across attainment, attendance and wellbeing) and parental confidence.

Galley Hills actions are to:

Use knowledge learnt from PINS training to ‘promote a culture which celebrates diversity’.

To use Language, Sensory and Physical audits to develop school environments.

To develop opportunities for Parent/ Carers voice to input school policy and practice.

Please come along to the next Parent/Carer meeting that will be held on Friday 6th December 8.55am in school. This meeting is run by a representative from the Herts Parent Carer Involvement (HPCI).

Stop Means Stop Campaign

Some lollipop men and women across Hertfordshire will be wearing a bright ‘stop means stop’ tabard this November (4/11/2024 – 15/11/2024). The ‘stop means stop’ campaign is run to remind drivers how important it is to stop for a patrol, who keep you and your children safe every time you cross the road. Please see if you can spot any of the patrols wearing these tabards.

Please show your support for them by stopping for your patrol.
